Fantasy Focus: Robbie's Redemption

Robbie Keane comes back with his first big impact since July 4th, a goalkeeper logjam, and Chris Tierney?

With 100 points, n00bius led the league and nearly notched the top mark in all of MLS Fantasy (109 points.) Federico Higuain's (CLB, $9.8M) vice captaincy and two goals helped him to 28 points when captain (?!?) Erick Torres from Chivas was on bye. Robbie Keane (LA, $10.6M) scored a hat trick and 18 points, while Galaxy teammates Omar Gonzalez ($5.9M) and Landon Donovan ($10.4M) scored 10 points each. SGV Galaxy's lead is shrinking, and it's now 25 points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers

Five goalkeepers tied for the positional lead with 9 points -- Matt Reis (NE, $4.8M), Luis Robles (NY, $5.8M), Zac MacMath (PHI, $5.1M), Jon Busch (SJ, $5.1M), and Clint Irwin (COL, $5.1M). DCU's Bill Hamid ($4.8M) came up with 3 points.

Defenders

New England's Chris Tierney ($5.0M) led all defenders with 11 points, aided by a clean sheet and an assist. Omar Gonzalez's 10 points tied for second with San Jose's Steven Beitashour ($5.2M). For United, James Riley ($4.5M), Daniel Woolard ($4.0M), and Dejan Jakovic ($5.2M) tied with 3 points. Chris Korb ($4.0M) and debutante Dennis Iapichino ($4.3M) tallied 1 point.

Midfielders

Giles Barnes (HOU, $6.8M) scored two goals and 12 points. Donovan's 10 points were good for second, and Barnes's Houston teammate, Brad Davis ($8.7M,) scored 9 points. D.C.'s Luis Silva ($7.2M) assisted on the United goal and scored 6 points; while Kyle Porter ($4.7M) scored 3; Nick DeLeon ($7.4M), Perry Kitchen ($5.4M), and John Thorrington ($5.3M) scored 2; and LEWIS NEAL! LEWIS NEAL! ($5.2M) appeared to score 1 point.

Forwards

Robbie Keane's 18 points led all scorers and represented his fifth performance of 14 points or more this season, and his first scoring more than 7 since July 4th. Higuain's 14 points placed him second, and both Will Bruin (HOU, $8.6M) and Marco Di Vaio ($8.8M) scored 10 points. Conor Doyle ($6.9M) scored a goal for United and 6 points in 19 minutes.

Looking Ahead

Colorado is on bye this week, so sit your Dillon Powerses, Clint Irwins, Deshorn Browns, and Chris Klutes. The games start on Wednesday, so get your changes in early, and note that Chivas, Dallas, Portland, and Real Salt Lake are all playing two games. Of those four teams, FC Dallas has the best matchups (@CHV, v. SJ), so think about Raul Fernandez ($5.4M, 110 points) and one of Matt Hedges ($5.7M, 121 points) or Michel ($5.6M, 119 points). Also think about Diego Valeri (POR, $7.5M, 99 points,) who has 3 assists and 14 points over his last two games. Lastly, what the heck, take Conor Doyle. He's notched 2 goals and an assist and 19 points in his last 3 matches, which have equaled 135 minutes of action, or a game and a half. He's at home against Toronto.
