Fantasy Focus: Hat Trick Landon

Landon Donovan returns with a vengeance.

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

With a total of 91 points, Thunderbolts led the league this week. Sebastien Le Toux (PHI, $8.7M) scored 20 points as vice captain, presumably because Chicago's Mike Magee was forced out at the 11th hour with an injury. Landon Donovan (LA, $10.1M) scored a hat trick on the way to 19 points, and Federico Higuain (CLB, $9.6) scored twice en route to 16 points. SGV Galaxy still reigns overall, with a 40 point lead.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers

Dan Kennedy's (CHV, $4.8M) saved penalty in the ejection-fest against Colorado helped him to 11 points and the positional lead. Vancouver's David Ousted ($4.5M) scored 10 points, and both Nick Rimando (RSL, $6.2M) and Jimmy Nielsen (SKC, $5.7M) tied with 9 points. For D.C., Bill Hamid ($4.8M) came in with 5 points.

Defenders

Philadelphia's Fabio Alves Macedo (aka: Fabinho) (PHI, $5.0M) led all defenders with 13 points on the strength of a clean sheet and an assist. Three players tied for 2nd with 9 points -- Josh Williams (CLB, $5.2M), Chad Marshall (CLB, $5.9M), and Matt Hedges (DAL, $5.6M). United's Conor Shanosky ($3.9M) scored 5 points, Chris Korb ($4.0M) scored 3, James Riley ($4.5M) and Ethan White ($4.2M) scored 2, and Taylor Kemp (playing left midfielder) scored 1 point.

Midfielders

Landon Donovan's 19 points, in his first match since June 29th, led all midfielders and all scorers. Far behind was Nigel Reo-Coker (VAN, $7.0M) with 11 points, and Sebastien Le Toux's 10 points were good for third. DCU's Perry Kitchen ($5.6M) and Jared Jeffrey ($6.0M) tied for first on the team with 3 points. Collin Martin ($5.5M) came in with 2 points, and both Dwayne De Rosario ($9.3M) and Kyle Porter ($4.7M) showed up with 1 point.

Forwards

Federico Higuain's 16 points led all forwards. Kei Kamara (SKC, $8.9M) scored 13 points, and both Blas Perez (DAL, $9.0M) and Conor Casey (PHI, $7.8M) scored 12. For United, Conor Doyle ($6.9M) scored 3 points, and Michael Seaton's ($5.3M) MLS debut led to 1 point.

Looking Ahead

Chivas USA is on bye, so bench all those Goats players that I'm sure you have. Montreal has not been performing well since their loss at DCU, but there's a good chance they get back on track at home against the Black and Red, so look that way, especially Troy Perkins ($5.0M, 107 points.) In defense, think about taking a shot with Josh Williams (CLB, $5.2M, 101 points). In midfield, Toronto's Jonathan Osorio ($5.5M, 67 points) has scored 29 points in 5 matches. Columbus is playing Toronto. Lastly, at forward, you have to pay for production, so Alvaro Saborio (RSL, $10.0M, 71 points) and Kei Kamara are hot right now. Saborio is at LA, and Kamara is at San Jose.
