The 2014 World Cup might realistically be two years and thousands of miles away, but the journey begins right now. The USA faces Antigua & Barbuda tonight in the opening match of qualifying for the United States .
Game time: 7:00 PM
TV: ESPN
Projected starting lineup: With Tim Howard in goal, the Americans will be tough to score on. He'll be supported by Fabian Johnson and Steve Cherundolo on the outside of the back line, with Carlos Bocanegra and either Geoff Cameron or Uguchi Onyewu in the middle. The midfield will be determined largely by the formation chosen, and if Jurgen Klinsmann elects to utilize a single high target forward, then three holding midfielders will be used as well. That would mean Jozy Altidore at the very top of the formation, with Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey flanking him on either side, and Maurice Edu , Jermaine Jones , and Michael Bradley deeper in the midfield.
Prediction: For a U.S. team that dominated Scotland 5-1, I'd look for an even better result tonight as the team gains confidence before heading down to Guatemala. I'm predicting a 6-0 win.
What are you drinking? For the USMNT GameThreads, only American products will be allowed. I'll have a Yuengling.
