In unexpected but totally welcomed news, D.C. United announced on Twitter today that the results of the MRI on Perry Kitchen's knee came back negative. All of his CL's are just fine, and there is no major damage. He'll be listed as Questionable on the team's injury report.
According to Steven Goff, both Kitchen and Chris Pontius are at RFK Stadium for practice today. They could be available for selection against the Colorado Rapids tomorrow night, depending on training today.
This is a huge bullet evaded by United. The performance of the team with Kitchen on Saturday against the Houston Dynamo was so different from the performance without him. I was honestly very worried that Kitchen's injury would be the turning point of our season. Instead, its just a rude awakening. A warning of how quickly things can change. Kitchen is quickly climbing the chart of the best defensive midfielders in MLS, and is one of United's most important players. With him, we're a championship contender. Without him, we're fighting for a playoff spot.
The only other time that I can think of that I was this happy about D.C. United news in the middle of a random weekday was the signing of Charlie Davies last February. What a relief.
