Last night's unimpressive win for D.C. United over Toronto FC went a long towards assuring that United will return to the MLS playoffs for the first time in five seasons. United now only needs three points the rest of the way to clinch.
But that doesn't mean that we won't be watching the other scores anyway.
Today's Eastern Conference matchup between Sporting Kansas City and the Columbus Crew is important in a lot of ways. For United, a Columbus loss would mean that the Crew could do no better than match our point total this season, guaranteeing a playoff spot for D.C. on the Goals For tiebreaker.
But SKC capturing all three points would also give them 61 points for the season, putting first place out of reach for United. A loss by the Sporks would still give United an outside chance of winning the Eastern Conference title.
The match is at 4:00 PM today and it can be viewed on MLS Live. So join us as we root with mixed emotions both for and against Sporting Kansas City. Tell us who you're rooting for. And then join us later too if you'd like to discuss the Seattle Sounders vs. Portland Timbers match at 9:00 PM.
