No Carolina Challenge Cup for D.C. United in 2013

Though Charleston is consistently a fan favorite, D.C. United will move to Orlando for the 2013 preseason.

Though there are plenty of things to focus on for the 2012 season, there is news about the 2013 preseason. D.C. United has decided to move its training camp to Orlando, Florida after spending last year in Arizona. While there, United will play in the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic against five other MLS teams, Sporting Kansas City included. With the word "World" in its title, it seems likely that some foreign teams will make the trip over as well, as Malmo FF did this spring.

But because of all of this, it means that United will not participate in the Carolina Challenge Cup for the first time since 2008, having won each of the last three. It also means that, barring a random friendly or a US Open Cup matchup, United and the Charleston Battery will not compete for the Coffee Pot Cup next year. The Carolina Challenge Cup is a destination tournament for many fans, and its loss is already being mourned on Twitter. For those of you who have been, what are some of your favorite memories? Were any of you planning to make a first time trip to Charleston this coming preseason?
