GameThread 29: D.C. United Vs. Philadelphia Union

I went to a concert in Philadelphia a couple of weeks ago. It was a reunion show for The Early November, one of my favorite bands from my college years. There are some things that I found somewhat charming about the City of Philadelphia. Like how the locals give their chessesteak orders at Jim’s on South Street ("Gimme a whiz wit"). But there are other things about Philadelphia that I wasn’t too impressed with.

You see, I’m a happily married man, but when I attend a concert at a venue in DC or even Baltimore, my eyes tend to wander. There’s so much female, err, talent, in these sorts of places, and they tend to dress, ahh, appropriately. Attending a concert in Philadelphia though, I had no such issues. My eyes didn’t wander. There was just nothing to look at.

Hey Philadelphia. Your women are ugly and your soccer team stinks.

Game time: 8:00 PM

Television: ESPN2

Projected starting lineup: DC United played its best match of the season in a 4-1 win over Real Salt Lake at RFK Stadium on Saturday. With another road match this Saturday against the Columbus Crew, Ben Olsen is probably going to have to balance his lineups somewhat during this stretch. This makes tonight’s starters difficult to project, but if he goes with the best 11 tonight, then we’ll see a team very similar to the one we saw on Saturday.

The lone change I’d expect is to see Santino Quaranta return to the right wing in place of Austin Da Luz. Stephen King, Clyde Simms, and Andy Najar would make up the rest of the midfield in this scenario, with Marc Burch, Brandon McDonald, Ethan White, and Perry Kitchen behind them in defense. Bill Hamid will be in goal while Dwayne De Rosario and Josh Wolff would start up top, with Charlie Davies coming off the bench.

This is your place for pre-game, in-game, and post-game discussion.
