Since arriving at DC United in a trade with the New York Red Bulls, Dwayne De Rosario has been nothing short of prolific. He's scored three goals and added an assist in five starts. Those stats include the two goals that he scored against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, a performance that notched him the MLS Player Of The Week Award, as voted by the North American Soccer Reporters.
De Rosario is the first United player to win the Award this season. The last time a D.C. player won the Award was Chris Pontius for his two goal performance at Qwest Field against the Seattle Sounders in 2010.
De Rosario is also up for Goal Of The Week for his second goal against the Earthquakes - a goal that was more about his setup pass than the actual shot, although both were very impressive.
The forward was just one of the two big acquisitions made by United recently that paid off dividends in San Jose. Brandon McDonald, who was playing against his former team, had a standout performance next to Dejan Jakovic. Here's hoping that we don't see McDonald move on too quickly, because he's looking like the type of stud center back that we've been missing for years.
