U.S. Open Cup GameThread: D.C. United Vs. Philadelphia Union

New, 17 comments

DC United embarks on their quest to return the U.S. Open Cup trophy back to its rightful home at RFK Stadium beginning tonight with a visit from the Philadelphia Union to the Maryland SoccerPlex.

Game time: 7:30 PM

Television: Nada. Follow along with United's twitter feed.

Starting lineup: Bill Hamid makes his triumphant return to meaningful action, and could probably win the regular starting job tonight with a good performance. He'll need one for United to win with an inexperienced back-line in front of him, consisting of midfielder Brandon Barklage, rookie Ethan White, Rodrigo Brasesco, and Daniel Woolard. The midfield is a bit less of a concern, with Andy Najar and Branko Boskovic on the wings, and a pretty aggressive central tandem of Stephen King and Fred da Silva. Up top will be United's Week 1 starters Joseph Ngwenya and Josh Wolff, who will also be serving as the team captain.

This won't be an easy match by any stretch of the imagination, as the Eastern Conference leading Union are using a lineup that appears to be very close to their best eleven.
