We're not surprised. We're really not disappointed either.
Andy Najar has chosen to play international soccer for the country of his birth - Honduras.
Najar's star has risen so quickly from schoolyard talent to high school superstar to Academy team standout to MLS Rookie Of The Year. This is just the next step for him. And as Steve Goff pointed out yesterday , Honduras is really the only choice that makes sense for someone who dreams of being a regular international contributor. He could be playing for them as early as the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer.
From the perspective of a D.C. United fan, this is nothing but a good thing. Its experience at the highest international level. It means he'll be exposed to different styles of play and have the chance to play alongside (and learn from) other talented players.
From the perspective of a U.S. Soccer fan, I'm just worried about Jonathan Bornstein trying to mark him.
Best of luck Andy!
