Disappointing. Another year for me that I’m not going to make the playoffs, it’s tough to swallow, to be honest. I love the fans. The fans are passionate. You see them after the game, they come and salute us. But I’m not even trying to worry about that right now. I’m just really disappointed that another year gone by where I have to watch the playoffs on TV.

That's Dwayne De Rosario talking about the season, which will see him (at the very least) in the running for the Golden Boot. And it's why Olsen and the F.O. brought him here. via Stouffer.

Oh, we'll keep him around. I've talked to my owner, Will Chang. He's not going anywhere.

With De Rosario, United now has a player capable of filling the shoes of Etcheverry and Gomez, at least from a creativity and goal-scoring perspective. Can he also continue to fill the trophy case, as United's central attacking midfielders have done so often in the past? He'll have to, because rebuilding is no longer the plan.

In case you didn't know, I also write a weekly column for SB Nation D.C. every Tuesday morning. With the huge news going down last night, I scrapped my previous idea and wrote instead about theDwayne De Rosario for Dax McCarty trade. Give it a read and come back here to discuss even more.

The stands were bouncing and the emotion was high at RFK Stadium on Oct. 14, 2009, when seemingly every U.S. Soccer fan in attendance held up a printed No. 9 in the ninth minute in salute of Charlie Davies Unfortunately, Davies wasn't there to see it. He was at a nearby hospital, recovering from injuries suffered in a tragic car accident on the George Washington Parkway just two days before. He didn't get to experience that huge showing of love and respect that day. But he'll be there on March 19. And he'll be wearing black-and-red.

An excerpt from my feature story on SB Nation D.C. about Charlie Davies’ return to the city that almost ended his career

Yesterday, I come to work, first day, a new year, optimism, I walk in, and who greets me in the hallway? A cockroach, the biggest one I've ever seen. He wasn't moving for me. He looked me dead in the eyes and was like, 'Look, I am not moving.' So I said, 'Good morning, Happy New Year,' and walked by. He tipped his hat to me. He was hung over from New Year's. He had the little horn in his mouth and the party hat.

EJ was once considered the future of the US forward line, but his career has stagnated since his move to Fulham in the summer of 2008. Though he may never scale the heights pundits had once hoped were his, last year’s loan to Aris Salonika of Greece — in which he scored five goals in 16 appearances — showed he still knows where the goal is. Johnson’s contract expires in summer of 2011, and it's possible Fulham would let him walk for free just to have his contract off the books. If that’s the case, then D.C. United would be a perfect landing spot. No team in MLS history has needed a proven goal-scorer more and, lest we forget, Johnson has a Golden Boot and a 15-goal season under his belt in the league.

You wonder now if FCD could have traded McCarty before the draft and gotten something back for him...I'd imagine the quick turnover from MLS Cup to Expansion draft didn't help, but it seems like Dallas dropped the ball on this one.

Daniel Robertson of Big D Soccer laments the loss of Dax McCarty. I said that McCarty and allocation money for Rodney Wallace and a fourth round pick is a pretty fair trade for the Portland Timbers and D.C. United. But Dan is right. The true loser in the deal is FC Dallas.

Team source @ DC United tells me Richie Williams turns down head coach job due to club's instability. Source says Williams wasn't sure of direction of the club or future prospects of being in DC...once again per club source.

via Kristian Dyer of MLSsoccer.com The depressingly unfortunate stadium situation for D.C. United is something that's been upsetting to United fans for years now. But never before has it so evidently affected the club's on-field potential. If viewed as a standalone event, this isn't a big deal. Richie Williams was never going to be a good choice for our next head coach anyway. But this could be a sign of a much much bigger problem. If Williams is rejecting the club because he's unsure of its future location, what other coaching candidates will do the same? What DP prospects will share his concerns and sign elsewhere?

"The Open Cup is a big deal for us right now. There will be an emphasis on those games because frankly that is the only trophy we can win this year."

Ben Olsen to Steve Goff of the Washington Post yesterday With a west coast match on Saturday night, and the most important match of our season to date at home on Wednesday, who would you like to see make the road trip?

Najar's goal is to play in Europe for his favorite club, Real Madrid, and for the Honduran national team. He already has been in contact with the Honduran U-20 team.

I'm wondering what other D.C. United fans think about this Washington Post article about young Andy Najar and his statement that his dream is to play for the Honduran national team. This is totally different from Giuseppe Rossi right? Rossi spent his entire youth in New Jersey, but was a dual Italian-American citizen due to his parents' immigration. Najar grew up in Honduras and only moved to the U.S. at age 13. Should we be upset that Najar would choose to play for Honduras over the United States? Should we even care?
