Things looked dour heading into Saturday’s game. D.C. United needed to beat the Philadelphia Union, or at the very least, show up on the scoresheet, to placate the natives. Thankfully, the Black-and-Red did both en route to a 2-1 win, extending the team’s unbeaten run over the Doopsters at RFK to six games.
Now for some GIFs from the game, starting with this interchange between Luciano Acosta and Patrick Nyarko. It started with a clearance from an encroaching Nick DeLeon (nice pass by Steve Birnbaum here, by the way), but Lucho’s selection in the area was a common thread for DCU attackers to this point:
Next up, speaking of Birnbaum, was his hustle back to clear the ball from a Union attack. He was occasionally out of place, but seemed more confident overall:
Still speaking of Birnbaum, this miscommunication between him and Bill Hamid was another source of concern. His shorthand with Boswell was easy to see in this game, but he’s going to need to create some with someone else soon, whether it’s Sean Franklin, Kofi Opare, Jalen Robinson, or whomever.
Last up was Bill’s save on C.J. Sapong. I’m marveling less at the save and wondering what it was that Boswell and Marcelo Sarvas were doing in the moments leading up to it:
So, what caught your eye from Saturday?
