Things going for D.C. United tonight: 1. We Win on Wednesdays. 2. The Dynamo are on short rest and long travel, and they're dealing with several injuries to players who would otherwise be under consideration for selection tonight. 3. Weird things happen when United and the Houston Dynamo meet at RFK Stadium with rain in the forecast. 4. We may be getting some important players back from injury. 5. I said the thing about Wednesday, right?
Things going against the Black-and-Red tonight: 1. We're really bad at soccer right now, and the Dynamo aren't. 2. See No. 1.
Should be fun.
Time: 7 pm EDT
Venue: RFK Memorial Stadium, Washington, DC
TV: There's actually something here! Hooray! The game will be carried on CSN+ (Comcast SportsNet's overflow channel) due to the Caps playoff game in New York on the main feed. It will also be simulcast on NewsChannel 8 in the D.C. area (if you have cable, anyway) and is available elsewhere on MLS Live.
Projected D.C. Lineup: Bill Hamid in goal. Chris Korb, Dejan Jakovic, an apologetic (and hopefully improved) Brandon McDonald and Daniel Woolard in the back. Perry Kitchen central midfield behind the trio of Marcos Sanchez, Dwayne De Rosario and Kyle Porter. Two of Rafael, Lionard Pajoy, Carlos Ruiz and Casey Townsend up top.
Prediction: With Houston's injuries and travel and quick turnarounds on either side of this game, I think United can outlast the Dynamo tonight. Can, but narrowly won't. Look for a draw 1-1 draw with Houston going ahead against the run of play before United equalizes late.
What Are You Drinking?: I'll be taking a couple first-timers to what might be called the Worst Possible Game to Bring a First-Timer To. Nevertheless, the tenets of the Free Beer Movement demand that I buy a round of the cold stuff, and so I shall: Model Especial for my group, please.
This is your spot for pre-game, in-game and post-game discussion.
