Anyone remember the good old days?
You know, of Jaime Moreno, Christian Gomez and Luciano Emilio / Alecko Eskandarian. Those days were something. Everything looked beautiful and easy. The team moved with ease and those days were our strongest since the first years.
Where are we now?
Well let's just take a look back on where we were a little while ago. After Gomez took a little while off of being part of the Black and Red, we went after and got Marcelo Gallardo (utter failure from my standpoint). We expected something great out of Moreno, Emilio and Gallardo. What we got was a half year of injury and disappointment.
Then we got rid of Gallardo and got Gomez back only to have Emilio get fat, slow and overall suck. Got rid of him and Gomez and left Moreno to fend for himself. We instantly dropped off the top of the table.
So where are we now? (Legit now).
I believe that we may have the beginning of a new "magic triangle". With Chris Pontius in top form and Dwayne De Rosario still on top of the world. We may need an injection of talent maybe from a huge signing (not after the Gallardo disaster) or a bit of good luck with the draft (another Nick DeLeon or Perry Kitchen) or a homegrown (another Andy Najar or Bill Hamid). We may already have all of this now. With DeLeon after his breakout season and this new 4-4-1-1 formation, and Pontius on top and DeRo underneath in the Center Attacking Midfield role (should they be in those positions) would create a great revival of the "magic triangle". Not to mention all the other threats in Najar on the back line, and any striker yet to be gotten.
What will probably bring us back to the cup, is the "magic triangle" and we might have one of those in the making. Let's just hope that something like this will happen.
