Sporting Kansas City Added to D.C. United's Preseason Schedule

WASHINGTON, DC - OCTOBER 22: C.J.Sapong #17 of Sporting Kansas City wins a headball against Brandon McDonald #2 of D.C. United at RFK Stadium on October 22, 2011 in Washington, DC. Sporting Kansas City defeated D.C United 1-0. (Photo by Larry French/Getty Images)

The Casa Grande Dispatch out of Arizona is reporting that D.C. United will play a friendly against Sporting Kansas City at noon on Saturday, February 11. If you are in the area, it will be at Grande Sports World and is free! This seems to make sense, as United will be in Arizona training from February 6 through February 16 and mentioned in their preseason schedule press release that friendly dates and opponents would be announced in the coming weeks. The piece also announces that the Vancouver Whitecaps will play friendlies against the Seattle Sounders and Real Salt Lake in the days preceding United's match. Perhaps one of them could be United's first Western Conference friendly opponent?

Also, D.C. United's friendly versus Malmo FF is this Thursday. It will put a cap on their stay in Florida, before they come back to the District for a few days between this training stint and Arizona. While the matches by themselves don't mean much, I hope for good individual performances, especially from the new players. Although, after the way United's top preseason goalscorers have performed in the regular season these past two years, maybe we should hope for them perform poorly? (I kid, mostly....)

Thanks for reminding me that Ngwenya was our 2011 preseason MVP. Gotta save some of those for when it counts, bro!

And it was Jaime the year before that; I distinctly remember people (including myself) believing the he could be the supersub and a game changer…
