Jamaica's Adrian Reid Begins Trial With DCU
Lost in all this hoopla over the De Ro-for-McCarty trade, and the McDonald trade, is that DC has brought in a defender on trial. 26 year old Adrian Reid is fresh off making several appearances for Jamaica in the Gold Cup, including playing in their 2-0 loss to the United States in the quarterfinals at RFK. Reid has 24 caps for Jamaica, and can play as either a right-sided center back or as a right back. He spent the first half of 2011 on loan with Valerenga (the same Norwegian side that bought Troy Perkins from us), but his rights are owned by Jamaican club Portmore United. At the Gold Cup, Reid appeared to be good enough to make an MLS squad, but possibly not good enough to become a starter. If Brandon McDonald had not just signed, Reid's chances at becoming our 4th center back were at least decent. However, with 4 capable center backs now, it's hard to see where Reid would fit in.
