DCU salaries for 2011

Per the MLSPA's release of the salaries as of 5/1 here (and on a side note, good on them as I think this is much earlier than previous years), the salaries for the DCU players. First column is guaranteed base salary, second is annual average guaranteed compensation which, according to the MLSPA site is:

"The annual average guaranteed compensation number includes a player's base salary and all signing and guaranteed bonuses annualized over the term of the player's contract, including option years.  For example, if a player has a base salary of $50,000, has a two-year contract with two one-year options and received a $10,000 bonus when he signed, his average annual guaranteed compensation would be $52,500 (base salary plus signing bonus ($10,000), with the signing bonus divided by the number of years covered by the contract (4)). The average annual guaranteed compensation number also includes any annual marketing bonus to be received in the current year and any agent's fees annualized over the term of the contract. The average annual guaranteed compensation figure does not include performance bonuses because there is no guarantee that the player will hit those bonuses."

Anyway, the numbers after the jump:

Nothing seems too out of line here

With the possible exception of Jakovic. We’re paying Davies a lot less than I thought we would be.

I'm reminded by Stumptown Footy

That we are on the hook for part of Troy Perkins’s salary this year too.

Well, that’s not Davies’ true salary, just the portion MLS has agreed to pay in the loan deal. I believe I’ve heard his contract with Sochaux is worth $700k p.a.

As for Perkins, his salary number makes us look like geniuses for unloading him. Making more than Keller now? Wow.

Also, pleased to see the value that we negotiated for Fred and Wolff.

Not bad

Only disappointment for me is how much we’re paying Ngwenya. He’s a veteran, so maybe not a surprise, but he’s not worth $156K… at least, not yet. Only other slight surprise is how much Perry Kitchen is getting as a rookie. Well worth it in the long run, so no problem. Looks like most of it is in bonuses.

Reasons

Remember, Ngwenya came over in the first stage of the re-entry draft, so his salary wasn’t negotiable. Had we not landed Davies, he’d as-likely-as-not be starting most games.

Kitchen’s salary number actually doesn’t affect the salary cap for United this year – he’s Generation Adidas. Starting nearly every game this year, though, means he’ll almost certainly graduate and count against the cap next year, though – but if he’s playing well enough and starting every game, it would seem well-worth it.
