United releases Julius James. A mistake?
Julius James was my choice for the team's defender of the year last year, and quite likely runner up in team MVP behind Najar. It looks like Brasesco and Kitchen will be getting much more time at CB then I was anticipating, and potentially clears a hurdle for Ethan White.
I don't think that losing James is catastrophic, but I do think he was a good player and brought a lot of value to the team. The backline is improved, but certainly not great, especially since Brasesco playing centrally basically assures that Marc Burch will be on the left. I suppose Chris Korb could push him, but I don't see him in the mix for a starting role yet.
The other move that United made was selling an international slot - essentially James's - to the Galaxy for allocation money. I don't think they need that money to pay Davies, but does anybody know of any other players they're targeting? It's interesting that we had noted that Payne, Olsen & Co. hadn't done much on the international market this offseason, and now they've gotten rid of an international slot. Team America?

International Slot
I think James had his Green Card. He wasn’t taking up an international slot, which actually confuses me a little bit more about his waiving.

Really?
I figured since he played for another national team he still counted as an international player.

Confirmed
James has a green card and did not count as an international player last season.

What about Onstad?
Does he have his green card, or are we going to need that international slot back?

Apparently Onstad must have a green card too, because Houston did not list him as an international player last season.

He is a green card holder
Can’t find the link, but I remember that he was an international for the longest time before he finally came off Houston’s list of foreign players.

Player?
Maybe I’m confused but isnt Onstad a coach and not a player so he wouldn’t count?
Correction
I just saw that Onstad will be playing on the actual team so disregard that last reply.
