GameThread: Colorado Rapids at DC United

DC United is undefeated in their last 11 games against the Rapids at RFK, and look to continue their ascent back up to MLS's middle class tonight.  It won't be easy against a Colorado side that is built around hard working players like Conor Casey, Pablo Mastroeni, and Jeff Larentowicz..  The Rapids are coming off two straight 1-0 losses.

Game time: 7:30pm EST

Television: Comcast SportsNet

Stadium Info: Get your tickets at the RFK box office.  Pregame festivities include a concert from Poor But Sexy and of course the legendary Barra Brava and Screaming Eagles tailgates.

Projected Starting Lineup:

    Hamid
James Pena   Talley Wallace
  Simms   Morsink
Khumalo       Castillo
  Cristman   Allsopp

Last minute thoughts:  We've been told not to expect many changes to the DC lineup that earned three points in two matches last week.  This could be troubling as United is likely to be outmatched by the more talented Rapids in the midfield and striker positions.  Juan Manuel Pena and Carey Talley could be facing their toughest challenge of the year in Conor Casey and Omar Cummings.  But if United can generate some opportunities against Colorado's less than spectacular backline, and if Danny Allsopp and Adam Cristman can continue to get shots on target, this match could be about even.

This is your place for pre-game, in-game, and post-game thoughts.

I’m wondering if Najar sneaks onto the lineup. A shut out really doesn’t seem probable for us tonight, IMO. I think it may be a good night to start Moreno or Najar in the middle instead of Morsink. If we continue our current approach I think goals, tonight, may come with Colorado’s errors. If we play with a slightly more offensive approach I think we could dictate the pace and earn a couple.
Whomever starts, it’s going to take a team effort tonight.

Shots on goal

If DC doesn’t get shots on goal, we aren’t going to score. Nothing doing up top. I’m not sold on the Alsop and Christman show. Castillo? Missing Quaranta’s service. Najar is the real deal. Looking forward to having him back. And getting back Jacovich to replace Talley. Graye had a nice game, looking very calm out there. Simms had a nice game but had one great look at the goal (I was right behind him) and passed off instead.
Start the Onalfo watch?

Well, at least the stadium seemed pretty full... in the first half

Then again, it was a beautiful night for soccer, and we were the only team in town. However, I can’t imagine those nice crowds will keep coming if we keep playing like that. And I see no reason why the team will get any better with the personnel they have.
