Khumalo receives Green Card
DC United announced yesterday that Boyzzz Khumalo has been granted permanent resident status (aka a Green Card, which I'm told by those who have received one is funny, since the actual paperwork is not green). Khumalo is the fourth United player to obtain his Green Card (the others are Luciano Emilio, Andy Najar, Rodney Wallace, and Jaime Moreno).
This leaves United with 5 players that currently count as internationals (James, Pena, Jakovic, Allsopp, and Castillo). The club has 7 slots in all after a preseason trade with Kansas City.

Now if only my English neighbors who have been living here for six years could get theirs…
At this point, I think the international rule needs to be changed a bit. I understand we don’t want MLS flooded with players from superior soccer nations, but Trinidad, Bolivia, Canada, Australia, and El Salvador aren’t exactly countries whose players would take over MLS if we eased off the rules a little.
"My face is my mask."
Nooo...
Disagree strongly with having a certain number of domestics on the pitch. Everyone should earn their min.
I wonder if there were no international cap, sort of a free-market approach, how the US players would do? Don’t follow other leagues much, do EPL, Bundesliga, etc. have international caps?
Boyzzz position on DC just got a whole lot more secure. Now if he could just figure out how to cross the ball…
As far as I know, most other countries have either no limits whatsoever (Arsenal hasn’t had an English starter in a long time, though the pre-Abramovich Chelsea was actually the first to start a Premiership match without an English player) or limits on the total number of non-European Union players you can have registered with your squad that year.

Non-Gooners need not read this comment...
Walcott would probably be starting on the Arsenal right if he had something stronger than balsa wood for bones. No, I don’t just root for teams that want to pass the ball into the goal; what are you talking about?
More on topic...
Italy recently put in an international cap, didn’t they? And I know there’s been recent talk of such a cap in England, too, but at last check it was up there with wistful ideas like a salary cap and goal line replay.
This is in English…sort of. Good luck figuring it out.
