Our week 4 voting saw a change in the top tier, and New York's first entry into that group, despite their unimpressive victory over lowly FC Dallas.  The Galaxy expectedly remained at the top, while Columbus had to fight to remain in the upper tier.  There was some debate among the bloggers that the Crew didn't really deserve to skate by on their one win and one draw, but most of us just didn't feel right dropping them due only to inactivity.

I would have predicted Houston to make their first leap into the top tier (they had my vote!) but instead we were shocked to find three out of four teams in the top tier coming from the East.  Didn't see that coming before the season started!

The biggest drop though came for Real Salt Lake, who were just one point away from the third tier.  The team continues to look skillful while playing against superior opponents, but their 1-2-1 record is no longer fooling this group of MLS bloggers.

The bottom tier seems to be settling in without much competition.  Philadelphia's single goal home victory over DC isn't looking as impressive now is it?

About RSL

They lost in Houston and at the Galaxy, and were tied by the Sounders. For all that, they’ve still outscored their opponents. Last year, RSL were the best team in the league at home, and one of the 2 worst on the road. They will remain almost unbeatable at home, and will be much tougher on the road, as their near misses against LA and the Dynamo show. I know it’s hard to do with their having 2 losses, but I"d rank them as one of the top 4 teams, anyway.

Also, NYRB is really a 2nd-tier team. When the dust settles, LA, the Crew, RSL will be the top 3, and Seattle or Houston will be 4th. KC and NY battling for 6th, and some random team taking the last playoff spot, depending on what happens in the last 2 weeks.

Also not that impressed by NY

They’ve been OK, but top tier? Top 3? No way. They were very lucky to beat Dallas, who aren’t exactly in scintillating form. I’d put the Red Bulls at the foot of the 2nd tier.

My current order:
1st tier: LA, Columbus, KC, Houston
2nd tier: Seattle, RSL, Colorado, NY
(large gap)
3rd tier: New England, Dallas, San Jose, Chicago
4th tier: Philly, (large gap), Chivas, Toronto, DCU
