GameThread: DC United at Kansas City Wizards
It takes more. And it begins tonight.
DC United is in Kansas City, seeking revenge on the team that knocked them out of the playoffs in the final match of 2009, and on the team that fired our newly adopted head coach Curt Onalfo.
Game time: 8:30pm EST

Viewings: BlackFinn (1620 I Street NW), Molly Malone's (713 8th Street SE)
Lineup:
| Perkins | ||||
| Simms | Talley | Jakovic | Wallace | |
| Morsink | ||||
| Najar | Castillo | |||
| Quaranta | ||||
| Pontius | Moreno |
Last minute thoughts: Temper your expectations. Yeah I said it. If you read my MLS predictions earlier this morning, then you know what I think of this DC United team. You know what I think they are capable of. But this season will be a long road, and there's really no reason to believe that our defense will be significantly better than last year's in this particular match. Wallace is getting his first start on the backline and may not necessarily be an upgrade over Burch week one. They will grow and they will gel with the addition of Pena and when Namoff (or at least McTavish) is healthy. But for now, I'm worried that they may still be prone to mistakes, as they have been the previous two years.
DC United can win this match. I'd like to believe that they will. The whole offseason has been building up to this match. I'm ready. And I know our boys are too.
This is your place for any and all pre-game, in-game, and post-game thoughts.

Najar starts at RM? Interesting.

Interesting indeed. That’s a big statement about Khumalo and Barklage too if they’re losing out to a 17-year old kid. Can’t wait to see him play!

Refresh it…just came up.

Yep, I’m doing the same. The atdhe.net feed could start working in a couple minutes though.

Looks like...
they have Najar & Morsink in a holding mid role, with Quaranta attacking. We’ll see how that turns out.
Yeah I think the broadcast got it wrong. Simms is definitely playing RB. Its a 4-4-2. Good idea to play him there to give Najar some help if he needs it

Not liking Morsink so far.

Other than Quaranta, the entire midfield has been absent. Simms at RB not looking like such a great idea right now.

Yeah, when I saw that lineup on twitter, I said kinda loudly “you’ve gotta be kidding me!” which got a lot of looks at the grocery store.

So Smith knocks over Simms. Then Smith trips over Simms’ body. And the announcers think that should be a PK?
Did you know
that Morsink used to play for KC? I had no idea. The announcers haven’t mentioned it at all…
Wow
We have a few former wizards.

Jakovic got his money’s worth on that one.

Yeah, putting him out of his natural position a month after knee surgery probably wasn’t the best thing to do.

Totally agreed that Moreno looked to initiate contact. He went just inside the box and stopped. But there still WAS contact. Arnaud didn’t get a bit of the ball. He just got Moreno’s leg.
I think it's a no-call
just because it was inside the box. Moreno probably gets the call if it’s outside and just a free kick.
Actually, go to dcuteamstore.com, at least the team will get your money the quickest that way.

DCUTeamStore.com is much better than MLSGear.com, and has a bigger selection.

I think so, I just presume that dcuteamstore works them as regular transactions at their store so they get the bulk of the cash (mlsgear gets a larger cut I think).

Haha
I have only bought things from the team store. I recently bought a sack bag.

Looking back
I think Moreno would have scored if he hit that shot on the ground. Wet surface probably would have helped him there.
I agree with taking out Najar. But I would have brought on Barklage instead to try to hold more possession. Bringing on Allsopp is a sign that we’re really going for it.

Er… Make that a 3-4-3. Pontius, Allsopp, and Moreno all playing up top.

Quick poll in preparation for my match reaction thread.
On a scale of 1-5, does any DC player rate higher than a 3?
