DC signs former United prospect

Manchester United prospect, that is.  Floribert N'Galula is the lad's name (say that three times fast), and he plays D/M.  He's originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo and has bounced around Belgium, England, and Denmark.  He's still only 22 and might be a candidate to shore up the center back position.  He's an even six feet.

I'll be cautiously optimistic about this.  Defensive depth is good, and a European pedigree is nice, but we've had a number of African players in recent years that haven't really panned out.  Most of them have been attacking players, so maybe we'll have better luck with defenders.

Also, Onalfo still has to take his South American trip (he might have left today)

Instead of going to Brazil and Costa Rica though, I think the latest plan was to check out Argentina and Uruguay.

Hopefully I'm wrong but....

2008: Ibrahim Koroma
2009: David Habarugira
2010: Floribert N’Galalu

Here’s hoping that Flo will break the trend of young African defenders that have been total busts.

Call me a skeptic as well. However, until we get more details about what position he actually plays (CB/DM? RB or LB/RM or LM? RB or LB/DM?), it’s hard to say anything about who he’ll be competing for time with. It would be great if this worked out, but at the same time I’m not expecting big things.

Also, since the Behind the Badge post says he was discovered in a post-2009 season trial, this is a guy signed outside of when Onalfo was in charge. I’m sure he got some say in the matter, but he wasn’t at the trial.

Never mind that positional question. I’m trying to catch up after being out for several hours, and posted too quickly.

Center back/defensive midfield seems to be his deal. Both are positions we’re kind of short at, so that’s a positive. However, he didn’t stick at a League 2 side in England…not encouraging.
